The Weekly Observing List

We have a busy week with several public programs as well as astronomical events occurring. Here's a list of astronomy and club related things to keep on the watch for this week.

Nov. 5-12 - Taurid Meteor Shower:

Also known as Halloween Fireballs, the best expected time to view these is between November 5-12. >> Learn more

Nov. 8 - Minnesota Statewide Star Party, Day 1:

The clouds forced us to cancel this program. >> Learn more

Nov. 9 - Carl Sagan's Birthday:

Carl Sagan would have turned 85 on Saturday. >> Learn more

Nov. 9 - Minnesota Statewide Star Party, Day 2:

Unfortunately, we had to cancel Saturday's star party due to clouds. >> Learn more

Nov. 10 - Minnesota Statewide Star Party, Day 3:

You guessed it, we have canceled this evening's scheduled program due to... clouds.

Nov. 11 - The Transit of Mercury:

The fourth and final day of the Minnesota Statewide Star Party ends with the transit of Mercury on Monday morning. The transit will be visible from sunrise (approximately 7:30 am) until 12:00 noon. The forecast is not promising but we are going to try and set up for this event as the next opportunity in the U.S. to see this won't occur until 2048. >> Learn more

Nov. 12 - How To Buy a Telescope:

Our November meeting will feature our annual public workshop on how to purchase a telescope. >> Learn more

Nov. 14 - Vote For Your Favorite Exoplanet Name:

There is a contest running to name an exoplanet with a deadline to vote of November 14. >> Learn more

Nov. 16-17 - Leonid Meteor Shower:

Just as the Taurid meteor shower is ending the Leonid meteor shower is upon us.
